A Calmer Indoor Enrichment Routine

A Calmer Indoor Enrichment Routine

Enrichment is not about filling every minute of the day. It is about giving pets appropriate ways to use their senses, curiosity and energy—especially when the weather, work schedules or busy neighbourhoods keep everyone indoors.

Think nose first

Sniffing and searching are naturally satisfying activities. Hide a few treats in a snuffle mat, scatter a small portion of dry food in a safe area, or use a simple puzzle toy for short supervised sessions. Begin easy, then build challenge only when your pet understands the game.

Make play feel achievable

For cats, a teaser wand can mimic the movement of small prey: move, pause, hide and let them catch it regularly. For dogs, rotate a chew toy, rope toy or fetch ball instead of presenting every toy at once. Short sessions with a clear finish are often more enjoyable than hours of overstimulation.

Protect the quiet moments

Every stimulating activity should be balanced with rest. A comfortable bed, a sunny perch or a quiet corner gives pets a chance to reset. Watch their body language and let them choose when to engage and when to settle.

With a few simple tools and a little variety, indoor days can feel just as rich, rewarding and connected.
